Slam Up is a queer performance project that combines poetry & musical comedy by Cali Bulmash & Emily Löwinger.
From August 2013 - March 2015 Slam Up had over 100 performances over the course of 3 nation-wide tours that covered 35 states plus D.C. and Montréal.
During this time, we produced an album titled Same Brain and 4 music videos.
Fun facts:
-In some places, we weren’t able to use the word “queer” in newspaper event calendars to describe our show — after hitting submit we would get a message saying our copy contained vulgarities.
-Our touring vehicle was a Honda named Rhonda, which broke down right outside of Eugene, Oregon.
-At one Coming Out Day event at a small college near Myrtle Beach, campus police accused us of distributing vegan pamphlets around campus. (It wasn’t us!)
Notable performances include UNDER St Marks (featured in Time Out NY), Lovefest in the Midwest, and a run in the 2014 New York International Fringe Festival.
“BOTTOM LINE: This theatrical concert is slam up (entirely, completely) original. ”
Just good old Farmer Gaston & his guitar, Henry.
